About the player
The final of the DFB-Pokal der A-Junioren on 30 April 2023 ran to extra time and finished 4–3 for 1. FC Köln against Schalke 04. Meiko Wäschenbach wore the captain's armband that afternoon, scored with a bicycle kick and set up two more goals.
He came to it through the smaller clubs of his corner of Germany: TuS Katzwinkel from 2007, then FC Hennef 05 from 2013, before Köln took him into their academy in 2019. A first professional contract followed in September 2022.
The step from that to senior football proved the harder one. Between 2022 and 2025 he made 37 appearances for 1. FC Köln II in the Regionalliga West and scored once. He was attached to the senior squad through the 2024–25 season without playing a competitive minute for the first team.
In January 2025 he left on a free transfer for Karlsruher SC, where he wore number 21. There he split his football between the two sides: 13 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga and 15 for the second team, which won the Verbandsliga Baden that year.
In July 2026 he dropped to the 3. Liga with Alemannia Aachen, signing until 2028.
