About the player
What stands out in Melle Roede's path so far is not a breakthrough at the top level. He came through AZ Alkmaar's academy, having joined from the amateur club AFC '34 in Broek op Langedijk, and worked his way through every age group up to under-19 level, picking up championships along the way with the under-13 and under-14 sides. In 2024 he signed his first professional contract at AZ.
Rather than pushing straight into Jong AZ from there, Roede moved to the FC Twente/Heracles academy setup ahead of the 2025/2026 season, training with Twente's first team while remaining part of Heracles Almelo's squad. He was named among the substitutes for a Heracles fixture against FC Volendam in October 2025, a match Volendam won 3-0, though he did not feature on the pitch.
That chapter closed in June 2026, when AZ announced his return to Jong AZ on a contract running to the middle of 2028. He now wears the number 17 shirt for Jong AZ, with his development continuing at the level just below AZ Alkmaar's first team.
