Nelson Romero

Nelson Romero's football career has never followed a straight line. The forward from San Lorenzo, Paraguay, spent his best years bouncing between Asunción's clubs before, and after, a title-winning stretch that remains the high point of his record.

That stretch came at Olimpia Asunción in 2010, when Romero played across both halves of the season and scored in each — two goals in the Apertura, three more in the Clausura — helping the club to the Clausura title that year. It is the closest thing to a career-defining moment in a résumé built mostly on short stays and steady movement between sides.

He followed that with his longest spell at any one club, four seasons at Libertad between 2011 and 2014, appearing 76 times and scoring 12 goals. After that, the pattern became one of frequent change: a year at Sol de América, then a single 2016 season split between Rubio Ñu and Nacional Asunción, followed by spells at Sportivo Luqueño and General Díaz. Between 2020 and 2021 he took his game abroad, to Atlético Guemes in Argentina's second division.

Romero's connection to Club Guaraní spans two distinct periods rather than one continuous stint — a handful of appearances in the 2012 Clausura, and a return more than a decade later in 2025, where he has added a further three matches and a goal.

International recognition never extended beyond Paraguay's youth setup: Romero represented the under-20 and under-21 sides in the early 2000s but was never called into the senior national team.
