Nicolás Gastón Avellaneda

Nicolás Gastón Avellaneda grew up in the Lanús academy, where he spent his youth years before being promoted to the first team in 2013. The move to senior football did not translate into playing time: across four seasons he was named in 26 matchday squads without ever being called upon in a league fixture. In February 2017 he was on the bench when Lanús beat River Plate 3-0 to lift the Supercopa Argentina, a title won without him taking the field.

A switch to Defensa y Justicia in 2018 produced a similar pattern — a single appearance for the club itself, with his actual football coming through a string of loans. Ferro Carril Oeste gave him seven matches, Santamarina 28 and San Martín de San Juan 36, the loan spells effectively becoming the foundation of his career as a regular starter rather than his parent club.

In 2023 Avellaneda crossed to Chile, joining San Luis de Quillota and playing 32 matches there before moving on to Cobreloa in 2024, where he made 28 appearances. He returned to Argentina in 2025 for a season with Chacarita Juniors, featuring in 29 matches, before heading back across the Andes in 2026 to sign for Unión La Calera, where he now wears the number 1 shirt.

Avellaneda has never represented a national team at senior level and holds no individual honours; his one experience of a trophy lift, the 2016 Supercopa Argentina, came as an unused member of the Lanús squad.
