About the player
In 2024 he made 26 appearances and scored four goals in Ykkönen as Klubi 04 won the division and earned promotion to Veikkausliiga. On the back of that, HJK signed him to a three-and-a-half-year contract in July 2024, keeping him at the club through to the end of 2027.
His breakthrough with the first team came quickly. In November 2024, aged 18, he made his UEFA Conference League debut against Panathinaikos. He made 29 Veikkausliiga appearances in 2025, and in April that year he scored his first league goal, the winner in a 3-1 victory over VPS. HJK went on to win the Finnish Cup in 2025.
Mentu had featured in the league and in the Conference League, scoring in the latter, before undergoing surgery in June to remove a benign bone growth from his leg, an operation that ruled him out for four to six weeks.
Pyry Mentu remains contracted to HJK Helsinki until the end of 2027.
