Robert Javier Burbano Cobeña

Robert Javier Burbano Cobeña broke into professional football at Independiente del Valle before establishing himself at Emelec, where he became a regular on the wing and was named the best young player in Ecuador's Serie A in 2014. He repeated the feat the following year.

Emelec remains the club where the bulk of his career took shape — he won the Ecuadorian championship five times during his years there, with a loan spell at Delfin in between that brought him another league title in 2019. He returned to Delfin in 2021.

In 2025 he moved abroad for the first time, joining Brazil's Avaí on a free transfer, and won the Campeonato Catarinense with the club before returning to Ecuador midway through the year to sign for Mushuc Runa. In January 2026 he switched to Manta, again as a free agent, and has started all 14 of the club's Serie A matches so far this season, setting up one goal.

Burbano has yet to win a senior cap for Ecuador, though he was called into the squad for a friendly against Spain in 2013 without getting on the pitch. At youth level he was capped nine times for the under-20 side and scored once.
