About the player
Santiago Homenchenko's surname traces to Ukraine through his father, with Italian roots on his mother's side. Born in Mercedes, he came through at Peñarol before his career took on a shape still uncommon for a player his age. In 2023 he was part of the Uruguay squad that won the Under-20 World Cup.
From Peñarol he moved to Mexican side Pachuca. Spain's Real Oviedo took him in early 2024, and by August that year he had moved on to Mirandés. In August 2025 Pachuca loaned him again, this time to Querétaro in Liga MX, where he wears the number 5 shirt.
Homenchenko plays left-footed and has been used as both a central defender and a holding midfielder.
