About the player
Sofia Huerta made her name as a right-back, though she started out further forward and only settled into defence as her career developed.
Her path through the league began at Chicago Red Stars , where she started out after entering the NWSL through the draft, before two seasons at Houston Dash preceded her switch to Seattle. Alongside her NWSL career, Huerta has taken loan spells abroad, turning out for Adelaide United and later Sydney FC in Australia, and more recently for Olympique Lyonnais in France during the 2024–25 season.
At international level, Huerta represented the United States between 2017 and 2023, appearing 32 times without scoring. She was part of the squad that won the 2022 CONCACAF W Championship , and she went to the 2023 World Cup with the team, featuring in the group-stage win over Vietnam before the US were eliminated in the round of 16.
