About the player
Four seasons in Getafe's system produced exactly one appearance in La Liga: Santiago García González came on against Girona on 20 August 2023, and that was the extent of his top-flight football in Spain. In Portugal, the picture changed quickly. Since joining Gil Vicente he has played 70 matches in all competitions and scored ten goals.
He began at the Atlético Madrid academy between 2012 and 2014, then spent five years in the youth setup at Trival Valderas in Alcorcón.
Getafe signed him for their B team in August 2020. He stayed four years, making 51 appearances and scoring nine times, and was part of the side that won promotion in 2023.
On 5 July 2024 he moved to Gil Vicente as a free agent, signing a contract that runs to 30 June 2028. The first season in the Primeira Liga brought 27 league matches, four goals and an assist. The second was busier still: 33 league appearances, six goals and three assists.
He has started the 2026/27 campaign with two league matches, the most recent on 24 August 2026 against Casa Pia, which Gil Vicente won 2–0.
