Sergio Fernando Peña Flores

Peru's national team had waited a long time for a goal from Sergio Peña when it finally arrived on 20 June 2021, against Colombia at the Copa América. Peru lost 1-2. He kept scoring after that — against Chile in a 2-0 win and Bolivia in a 3-0, both in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup — and by mid-2024 had 38 caps and four goals.

He came through at Alianza Lima, where he was in the first team from 2012 to 2014, and moved to Spain to join Granada. The senior team in Granada never became his; a loan back home to Universidad San Martín brought 27 matches in 2016, and a season at Tondela in Portugal brought 32 more and a goal.

The Netherlands worked better. Emmen paid Granada a million euros in the summer of 2019, and over two seasons Peña played 55 matches and scored ten. That form took him to Malmö FF in 2021, and there he won things: Swedish champion in 2021 and again in 2023.

His debut for Peru had come on 24 March 2017, a 2-2 draw with Venezuela in World Cup qualifying. He went to three Copas América — 2016, 2021 and 2024 — and took bronze with Peru at the 2013 Bolivarian Games.

In January 2024 a Swedish court gave him a suspended sentence and 50 hours of community service for drink-driving.

The last two years have been unsettled. PAOK signed him in January 2025 for a fee reported at around 350,000 euros. Sakaryaspor took him in February 2026 for an undisclosed sum, and by the summer he had left again, joining OFK Belgrade as a free agent.
