About the player
Ville Tikkanen came through the academy at Oulun Luistinseura before moving into SJK's system, where he spent 2017 to 2020 with the reserve side, SJK Akatemia, making 32 appearances. He made his debut for SJK's first team on 7 April 2018, in a 0-1 defeat to PS Kemi, and went on to play for the Seinäjoki club. In his final season there, 2024, he wore the captain's armband.
That spell ended in November 2024, when HJK Helsinki announced they had signed the defender on a free transfer, his contract with SJK having run out. The move to the capital, confirmed for a two-year deal from 1 January 2025, brought him to one of the country's leading clubs.
In his first season at HJK, Tikkanen won the Finnish Cup. He also earned his first senior international recognition during this period, making his debut for Finland on 4 September 2025 against Norway.
Tikkanen plays as a central defender, a role he had already filled in league matches before making the step up to HJK.
