About the player
Huang Yonghai came up through Shanghai Port's academy system before being shipped out on the loan circuit that has defined his career so far. Born in Changsha, Hunan Province, the 188cm defender began with Hebei FC before joining Shanghai Port's under-21 side, where he made four appearances and scored once.
The loans followed in quick succession. Henan FC took him in for the first half of 2024, and after a stint back on China's youth radar with a call-up to the national under-19 side, he moved to Guangxi Hengchen for the 2025 season. That spell was the most productive of his career to date: 27 appearances and four goals. Shanghai Port brought him back into their B team setup for the first half of 2026 before sending him out again, this time to Foshan Nanshi, the club previously known as Dongguan United.
At Foshan Nanshi he has made five appearances so far. The path from academy prospect to fringe first-team defender has been built almost entirely on loan spells rather than a settled run in one shirt, a pattern common enough for young Chinese defenders working their way up through the parent club's pathway. Physically imposing at 79kg, he has featured across multiple levels of Chinese football within the space of a few years, a sign of a club still working out where he fits best.
