Prediction commentary
Based on data as of 27 Aug, 17:03Minija win at 1.23 looks the only sensible call. The gulf between first and fourteenth place in 1 Lyga is stark, and nothing in the data suggests Šiauliai II can bridge it.
Minija have won four of their last five matches, scoring 14 goals and conceding just two. They kept four clean sheets in that run, including a 5:0 victory away at Ekranas Panevėžys on 14 August. Šiauliai II managed only two wins in five games, with five goals scored and seven conceded. Their 1:0 win at Jonava on 21 August was their most recent positive result, but they lost 1:4 at home to Žalgiris II the week before.
The league table confirms the picture. Minija sit on 52 points from 20 matches with 17 wins, one draw, and two losses. Šiauliai II have 14 points from 21 matches with just three wins. One more game played does not explain the 38-point gap.
Minija average 53 per cent possession compared to Šiauliai II's 47. They take 6.0 shots on target per game against 2.63 for Šiauliai II. Corners tell the same tale: 7.8 versus 3.88. Minija also register more attacks, 102.4 to 84.38, and receive fewer yellow cards, 0.8 compared to 2.5.
The model expects Minija to score 2.4 goals while Šiauliai II manage 0.9. The most probable scores are 0:2 and 1:2, each at 10 per cent, followed by 0:1 at 9 per cent. Sixty-four per cent of simulated matches produce three or more goals.
The most recent encounter ended 3:1 to Minija at their home on 25 April. Šiauliai II won 4:0 at home in May 2025, but that was an outlier in a pattern of Minija superiority.
Odds opened and closed at 1.23 for Minija with no movement across three snapshots. The market, represented by 25 bookmakers, assigns 74 per cent probability to a Minija victory after removing the margin. Draw sits at 17 per cent, Šiauliai II at 10 per cent. The line has not shifted, suggesting no hidden information has emerged.
A Minija defeat would require a complete reversal of their current trajectory. They would need to lose their dominance in possession and shots, fail to score in the final 15 minutes where they have been most dangerous, and Šiauliai II would need to find the net in periods where they have scored zero goals recently. The model's 18 per cent draw probability and 55 per cent both-scores probability suggest a tight match is possible, but not a Šiauliai II victory.
Minija's quality, form, and motivation leave little room for doubt. A draw would suit Šiauliai II's defensive approach, but Minija's attacking output makes that outcome unlikely. The prediction breaks down only if Minija suffer an early red card or injury to key attackers, but no team news suggests such problems.
