BC Lietkabelis Panevezys

The Kalnapilis Arena sits on Parko Street in Panevėžys, opened in October 2008 to replace the old Aukštaitija Sports Palace, and it is here that Lietkabelis have built the identity that carries the club today, in burgundy, white and pale gold, before crowds of just under 6,000.

The club traces back to 1964, long before independence, and its early honours belong to a different competition altogether: the Lithuanian SSR League, won in 1985 and 1988. The King Mindaugas Cup has followed the same pattern: four runner-up finishes since 2016, the title itself still out of reach.

Sponsorship money reshaped the name more than once — Kalnapilis, Sema, Preventa-Malsena, Techasas among them — before the club returned to Lietkabelis in January 2012, having already taken the same trophy in 2005 as BC Panevėžys.

Jonas Mačiulis now runs the club as General Manager, arriving to shape Lietkabelis from the front office rather than the academy — the club has generally preferred experience over homegrown talent when it comes to first-team recruitment, even as a youth side competes in EuroLeague junior tournaments. Neptūnas remain the fixture that matters most on the calendar, a rivalry with no separate name of its own.

Through all the changes of sponsor and name, the arena on Parko Street has stayed the constant, built to replace a sports palace that could no longer hold what Panevėžys basketball had become.
