Taurage

Nothing about BC Tauragė points to grand ambition at the start. It grew out of a local outfit called Tauragė Fortūna–Agava, entering the Regional Basketball League's second tier in 2015 the way most Lithuanian provincial clubs begin. The rebrand to BC Tauragė came in 2019, and for years afterward the club stayed where it began, in the RKL.

The bronze medals of 2020–21 were the first sign the club had outgrown that obscurity; the silver of 2024–25 confirmed it, and pushed Tauragė into the promotion picture it had never previously threatened. Promotion arrived for the 2026–27 season — the club's first taste of the Lithuanian Basketball League, and a jump of two divisions from where it stood barely six years earlier. No LKL title, no Lithuanian Cup, nothing yet to put alongside the country's established names; what Tauragė brings up with it is simply itself, unchanged in colours — white and green — and still playing in front of no more than 2,000 people at a time.

The town's proximity to Gargždai gives it a natural rival in BC Gargždai, western Lithuania's other basketball address, though the meetings between them have so far mattered more locally than nationally. Overseeing the promotion push is Tomas Rinkevičius, a coach from the 1978 generation of Lithuanian basketball men who spent his career around the game long enough to know exactly what a first season in the top flight demands of a small-town club that has never been there before.
