Calgary Wild

Calgary spends its winters on hockey, but for a few years now the city has been trying to find room for a women's professional football club in a market that hadn't had one. Calgary Wild FC answered that, unveiled on 30 May 2024 as one of six founding clubs of the Northern Super League, and took the field for the first time in 2025.

The crest carries an owl with a stylised "W" worked into its head, and the club has given that owl a name and a job as mascot — Echo. The neon violet and red in the kit aren't arbitrary either: violet for the city's sunsets, red for the Calgary Tower.

The first player ever signed carried weight beyond the roster sheet — Farkhunda Muhtaj, midfielder and captain of the Afghanistan women's national team, put pen to paper before anyone else.

Wild finished fifth in the NSL regular table, missing the playoffs with 9 wins, 2 draws and 14 defeats from their matches. There was a better run in the W Canadian Championship, where a 4-0 win over CS Mont-Royal Outremont carried them to the quarter-finals. By 2026 the team had turned it around and reached the NSL final, set to play Halifax Tides FC on 14 November 2026 at McMahon Stadium.
