Střelecký ostrov is the ground's name: Fotbalový stadion Střelecký ostrov, 6,681 seats. Dynamo has played there through every rebranding the club has gone by, and there have been several.

The club started life in 1899 as Sportovní kroužek České Budějovice, renamed SK České Budějovice within a year. What followed reads like a record of the country's politics: Slavia in 1903, Sokol JČE under the postwar gymnastics movement in 1949, Dynamo from 1958, a name it kept through the changes of 1991 and 2004. For decades the club listed 1905 as its founding year. In 2023 it corrected that on the strength of research by Michal Prucha and Zdeněk Zuntych, who traced the founding notice back through the newspaper Budivoj to 1900.

Three Czech second-division titles — 2001/02, 2013/14, 2018/19 — mark a club that has spent more of its history working back toward the top flight than sitting in it. Its best finish in the Czech First League was sixth, in 1993/94 and 1996/97. In the Czech Cup it has reached three semi-finals, without ever taking the trophy.

Karel Poborský came through the academy before Slavia Prague and Manchester United took him elsewhere, and returned briefly in 2005; the club retired his number 8 in his honour. David Lafata, another product of the youth system, went on to finish as the Czech First League's all-time leading scorer. Against FC MAS Táborsko, the fixture is billed as the Jihočeské derby.

The line runs back to a group of young men in České Budějovice in 1899, who formed a sports circle and gave it a name within the year.
