Weidner Field sits in Colorado Springs, an hour south of Denver, and it is one of several grounds the Storm have used rather than a fixed home. The club plays where the schedule sends it, a travelling arrangement more typical of a first-year side finding its footing than an established one.
That newness is not quite what it looks like. The Storm name dates only to 2024, but the team underneath it goes back to 1996 as the Colorado Rapids Women, a side that won the North American USL Super20 League in 2012, spent a spell as Colorado Force, returned to the Rapids Women name in 2019, and then rebranded again to enter the USL W League as the Storm. Kristen Hamilton was part of that 2012 championship squad; she came back in 2024, by then with the North Carolina Courage and Kansas City Current behind her, to play for the club's latest incarnation.
The reinvention worked immediately. In their first season under the Storm banner, they beat FC Olympia 1-0 to take the Western Conference title, then went on to the national final, where NC Courage U23 beat them and left the Storm as runners-up.
Denver already has recognised rivals in Albion SC Colorado and Real Colorado Women, though no fixture between the Storm and either has been fixed into anything resembling a derby. The club still plays in white and black without a settled ground to call its own.
