Dinamo St. Petersburg

Alexander Samonov had already been named the Supreme Hockey League's best goaltender when the run came, in 2017–18, and it ended with a 4–2 win over SKA Neva and the Petrov Cup — the only VHL title Dynamo St. Petersburg has taken. That same season the team put up 126 points in the regular season, still the league record, with defenceman Ilya Nazarevich rated the competition's best.

The club did not begin as a senior side at all. It grew out of the Dynamo youth sports school, entering the Junior Hockey League in 2013, and only reached the Supreme Hockey League with a men's team in 2016. Since 2021 it has sat inside the vertical structure of Dynamo Moscow. Beneath the VHL side runs a full pipeline: a junior team, and a women's team, Dynamo-Neva, in the Women's Hockey League.

The 2019–20 and 2021–22 seasons brought runner-up finishes in the regular season, without a second title to go with them. Number 77 has not been worn since 2021, retired for Timur Fayzutdinov, a former captain of the junior team, after his death that year. The academy's recent produce includes Daniil Prokhorov and Roman Bausov, both taken in the 2025 NHL Draft.

Petersburg derby opponent Dynamo beat in that one final. German Titov now runs the team.
