Olympia

Olympia's home rink keeps a name in its rafters that most cities the size of Kirovo-Chepetsk never get close to: number 15, retired for Alexander Maltsev, the Soviet forward inducted into both the IIHF and Russian Hockey Halls of Fame. Vladimir Myschkin's number hangs beside it. Neither man is remembered here as a passing visitor — both came through a club that grew out of the Kirovo-Chepetsk Chemical Plant, and for years carried the plant's name as Khimik before the club was renamed Olympia on 10 November 1964 and folded into the town's Olympia Sports Club.

The best of its playing days came soon after. Olympia took bronze in the USSR Class B championship in 1965/66, then won the title outright the following season, 1966/67 — the high point of a club that has spent most of its history working through the lower tiers of Soviet and Russian hockey rather than the top flight. It plays now in the Supreme Hockey League, one step below the Kontinental Hockey League, and in June 2026 signed a cooperation agreement with KHL side Admiral Vladivostok. The junior side, MHK Olympia, took bronze in the National Junior Hockey League in 2022/23.

Mikhail Zvyagin took over as head coach in 2025, with Pavel Mahanovsky wearing the captain's armband. The nearest thing to a grudge match on the schedule is against HC Izhstal Izhevsk, a fixture the VHL's Eastern Conference treats as a regional derby.

Games are played at the Ice Palace "Olymp-Arena", a rink that seats 1,800 in a town built around a chemical plant — small enough that a Hall of Fame number on the wall still means something to everyone who walks in.
