Fénix

The Ciudad de Marcos Paz exists mostly on paper: work began in October 2024 on a stadium of that name in Marcos Paz, and Fénix still has no fixed capacity to point to. The club has not had a ground it could call its own since 1978, when the authorities forced it out of its Chacarita headquarters. Since then it has rented pitches wherever it could find them, most recently at Deportivo Armenio and San Cayetano, and it left the stadium it had been using in Pilar in 2014 after a dispute with the landlord.

The wandering has a strange symmetry with how the club started. In 1948, a group of young men who met at a bar called Fénix, in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires, took the bar's name for their new club after a fire had gutted the building the year before and it had been rebuilt. The name stuck for what it meant: rising from the ashes. Founded on 25 April 1948, the club shortened its full name, Club Atlético, Social y Deportivo Fénix, to the current one in 1956, by which point it had already begun looking for land of its own — a plot in Colegiales in 1955, then a headquarters built in Chacarita in 1963, the one it would lose fifteen years later.

Fénix plays in white and black, which gives the squad its nicknames — Blanquinegro, Los Cuervos, sometimes El Águila Albinegra — with pink appearing on the away kit. Its honours belong to the lower rungs of Argentine football: champions of Primera D Metropolitana in 2004–05 and again in 2011–12, each title earning promotion, and winners of the Reducido in Primera C in 2013, which pushed the club up into Primera B Metropolitana.
