Expressinho

Expressinho have no derby of their own. What they have is the three big clubs of São Luís, Moto Club, Sampaio Corrêa and Maranhão Atlético Clube (MAC).

The club began in the Cohab housing complex in 1975, and the name comes from the first game. The players had no money for transport and walked home, and one of them suggested calling the team "Expressinho" after the pace of that walk. The nickname, Furacão da Cohab, keeps the neighbourhood in it. Red and green are the colours.

The elite Campeonato Maranhense came in 1980, and Expressinho finished fourth. Sixteen years later came the season people still quote: in 1996 they lost 11 games, drew one, scored 5 goals and conceded 89. Then the club stopped altogether. Activity was suspended from 2005 to 2012, and the return began with an under-16 team before professional football resumed. For a while they represented the municipality of Santa Rita, and they were back in São Luís in 2013.

They finished last in the top flight in 2015 and went straight back down. After a third-place finish in 2017 they withdrew from competition in 2021 and 2022, then finished bottom of the second division in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

He went on to Goiás, Portuguesa, Atlético Paranaense, Avaí, Ponte Preta, Ceará and Sampaio Corrêa, and played abroad in South Korea and Belgium.
