Fast Clube-Am

The night Fast Clube filled Estádio Vivaldo Lima to 56,000 for a friendly against the New York Cosmos, on 9 March 1980, the away side had Clodoaldo, a 1970 World Cup winner, in its ranks.

Fast Clube was born out of a split at Nacional Futebol Clube in Manaus, when a group of dissidents broke away in 1930 over a dispute about player fees and voting rights within the club's statutes. An English teacher, Carlos Mesquita, gave the new club its name. The derby against Nacional is still known locally as "Pai x Filho" — father against son.

Red, white and blue, the club's colours, were taken from the flag of Amazonas. Fast built its identity at home rather than nationally, winning the Campeonato Amazonense seven times, from a first title in 1948 through to 1955, 1960, 1970, 1971 and, after a long gap, 2016, when they beat Princesa do Solimões 3–1 in the final. There was a brief run at the top level of Brazilian football too — in 1978 Fast beat Fluminense 2–1 at the Maracanã.

The Road Roller, as the club is nicknamed, has since moved between the compact Estádio Ismael Benigno and the much larger Arena da Amazônia depending on the occasion. Fast withdrew from the 2021 state championship, dropped into the second tier of the Amazonense league in 2023, and failed to win promotion back in either 2024 or 2025.
