The reigning champions of Amapá's under-20 football go into 2026 carrying silverware from both ends of the country's development pyramid.

The senior side that spawned this generation was built out of exclusion. Father Ângelo Biraghi founded Independente on 19 January 1962 with workers from the ICOMI mining company, men shut out of Santana Esporte Clube, which admitted only the elite.

Money has not always followed the trophies. Independente pulled out of competitions in 2004 and 2017 and lost its own headquarters in 2003, only returning to professional football in 2021.

Home matches, when the fixture allows it, are played at the Estádio Augusto Antunes, reopened in September 2025 after years standing in disrepair; before that the club had been making do at the Zerão in Macapá. The stadium's certified capacity now stands at 2,318.
