Baixada sits low along the Estádio 19 de Outubro's surrounds in Ijuí, the kind of ground where a crowd of a few thousand still carries, and it is where São Luiz built the youth setup that now sends teams into the Copa do Brasil U20 and the Gaucho state junior championship. The academy answers to Angelino Alves dos Santos's original club, founded on 20 February 1938, and it has spent recent seasons producing players rather than just fielding them: Fabiano Leismann came through here before playing for Cruzeiro, Palmeiras and Internacional, and Ferreira went from the same pathway to Grêmio and on to Atlanta United.

The senior side gives the U20s something to aim at. São Luiz once beat Uruguay's Peñarol in the Copa Atlântico back in the 1970s, and the club has since worked its way up through three Campeonato Gaúcho second-division titles, in 1990, 2005 and 2017, before a run of first-team silverware in the 2020s — the Copa FGF in 2022 and 2023, the Recopa Gaúcha in 2024, the Taça Farroupilha in 2026. None of that belongs to the junior side directly, but it sets the standard the academy is judged against, and it is the reason Ijuí keeps sending its best young players through the same red-and-white shirt rather than elsewhere.

Across the city, Esportivo remain the rival that gives the derby its edge, even without a name attached to it in the way other Rio Grande do Sul clashes carry one. For a club nicknamed Rubro, the identity has stayed simple: red and white, a home ground shared with the first team, and a graduate list of two names that went on to Série A football and, in Ferreira's case, to MLS.
