Grêmio 's under-20 side has twice reached a final its senior team never has.

That emphasis has a physical address: CFT Hélio Dourado, the training complex in Eldorado do Sul that has sent Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Arthur Melo, Douglas Costa and Everton "Cebolinha" into the senior game.

On the domestic stage built specifically for that age group, the record is sturdier. Grêmio took the Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-20 in both 2008 and 2009, back to back, and has made the state title, the Campeonato Gaúcho Sub-20, close to a habit, winning it in 2007, 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2023 — then losing the final again in 2024 and 2025.

None of that changes who the fixture is against. When Grêmio 's under-20s play Internacional's, it is still called Gre-Nal, the same name attached to the senior derby that splits Porto Alegre by colour.
