The Ca-Ju derby against Caxias Futebol Clube defines the sporting calendar in Caxias do Sul. Esporte Clube Juventude, founded on June 29, 1913 , was established by Italian immigrants who wanted a team to represent their community. They chose green and white for their colours, earning the nickname Alviverde .

While the local rivalry remains constant, the club’s fortunes have fluctuated wildly. The stadium, Estádio Alfredo Jaconi , sometimes called Jogão , has seen them play in the top flight and fight in the fourth division. The capacity is recorded as 19,924 by the Brazilian Football Confederation, though the club claims figures closer to 23,519 . The most significant moment came in 1999 when Juventude won the Copa do Brasil , defeating Botafogo in the final. That victory was validated by a Campeonato Brasileiro Série B title in 1994 and an undefeated Campeonato Gaúcho win in 1998 . After those years, the club slid to Série D in 2010 , a fall that felt permanent before they climbed back to the top flight in 2020 . They were relegated again in 2025 , returning to the second tier.

Despite the instability in results, the academy provides continuity. Alex Telles left for Manchester United and Sevilla, while Alan Ruschel remained to become a club legend.

Currently, Juventude competes in Série B after dropping out of Série A in 2025 .
