Kuchl

SV Kuchl measures its season against SV Grödig and TSV Hallein, the two clubs from the same corner of the Tennengau and Flachgau that show up whenever Salzburg's lower leagues need a local derby with something at stake. More recently the fixtures against TSV St. Johann and Pinzgau Saalfelden have carried the same weight, standard opponents in a Regionalliga West table where petrol money and travel time matter as much as form.

The club traces its football back to ATSV FC Kuchl, a side that existed only briefly in 1947, but SV Kuchl itself was founded on 1 January 1954 by Franz Günther, Josef Kantner and Walter Ketter — a fresh start rather than a continuation. For its first two seasons the team had no ground of its own and rented a pitch in neighbouring Golling before moving to what is now the Andreas Wimmer Arena, rebuilt in 1970 and renamed from Bürgerausee Arena as recently as September 2022. It holds 1,500.

Red shirts, white shorts, and a nickname — the Red-White Devils — that both supporters and the local press use without irony. Silverware took decades to arrive: promotion out of the 2. Landesliga Nord in 1966/67 gave the club its first title of any kind, repeated in 1983/84 and again in 1996/97. The step up finally came in 2023/24, when Kuchl won the Salzburger Liga, the top flight of the regional federation, and followed it in 2021/22 with the SFV Stiegl-Landescup, the county cup and still the only cup Kuchl has won; a runner-up finish in the same competition came in 2024. Regionalliga West is the club's current level, with a move to Regionalliga Nord scheduled for 2026/27.

Ask around Kuchl who put the club there and the answer is usually one of the three founders rather than any player who has worn the shirt since — in a village side built from nothing in 1954, the men who signed it into existence still outrank the results that followed.
