Lausanne

Lausanne-Sport has won the Swiss championship seven times. The nine Swiss Cups run wider across the calendar, from 1935 through to back-to-back wins in 1998 and 1999. In continental competition the record is thinner: a group-stage win in the 1991 Intertoto Cup, a runners-up finish in the 2001 edition against Udinese, and a 2010-11 Europa League campaign in a group with CSKA Moscow, Palermo and Sparta Prague that ended with Lausanne bottom of the table.

The club was formed on 1 September 1896 and now plays at the Stade de la Tuilière, holding 12,544. Roger Vonlanthen, a midfielder who later went on to coach the side between 1967 and 1972, is remembered as close to an emblem of the club as any player has been.

Ownership changed hands on 13 November 2017, when Ineos, the chemicals group built around Sir Jim Ratcliffe, bought the club outright from Alain Joseph. That put Lausanne inside the same portfolio as Manchester United and OGC Nice, a structure that has sent loan players such as Sekou Kone through the group and opened academy pathways to Manchester, but has also drawn scrutiny over UEFA's rules on multi-club ownership, which pushed Lausanne into a separately run corporate structure to keep the club eligible for European competition.

None of it carries the weight in Lausanne of the Derby lémanique against Servette, the fixture between the two clubs sharing the shores of Lake Geneva and the oldest rivalry either side plays. Sion brings the Derby du Rhône, contested as the leading claim to Romandy, while Yverdon-Sport, from the same canton of Vaud, supplies the more local derby vaudois.
