Lucerne go into the 2026 campaign in the year the club turns 125, having marked the anniversary of a founding date that falls on 12 August 1901.

For most of that time the trophy shelf stayed thin. One Swiss Super League title, in 1989, and a Swiss Cup won in 1960 that stood alone until 1992. Then nothing for 29 years, until the 2021 final.

The blue shirts and white shorts are not a design choice so much as an inheritance: the colours belong to the coat of arms of both the city and the canton. The nickname works the same way. Die Leuchten — The Lights — comes from the name Luzern itself, which carries the sense of light. Around the ground it usually gets shortened to FCL and left at that.

Ask about rivals and the answer splits. Most of the terraces, and the ultras groups in particular, point east to St. Gallen. Club president Stefan Wolf has been more careful about it, calling those fixtures matches with a special character while saying plainly that they are not a derby in the real sense. The claim with better geography behind it is Aarau, whose Swiss Cup meeting with Lucerne was billed as a Cup-Derby.

Home is the Thermoplan Arena, which most people in the city still call the Swissporarena, the name it carried before the sponsor changed.
