Third-tier football in Linares runs through Primera División RFEF, where the Azulillos spent the 2023/24 season in Group 2.
That decade began with a collapse. CD Linares folded in 2009, and on 4 August that year a replacement was registered as Asociación Deportiva Linares. The name lasted barely a season: by 2010/11 the club was Linares Deportivo, and it won the Regional Preferente of Jaén under that title. The Primera Andaluza followed in 2011/12, and with it a play-off tie that carried the club into Tercera División for the first time.
The blue comes from linarite, the mineral pulled out of the mines around the town.
The honours of the older Linares Club de Fútbol, which won Tercera División three times before it disappeared in 1990, belong to that club and not this one.
