It was called Club Deportivo Mineros de Guayana then.

Then the wait. On 28 May 1989 Mineros beat Estudiantes de Mérida 2:1 and took the Primera División, with Johnny Castellanos leading the scoring that season; he would later go to the 1994 World Cup.

Luis Valenillas, a defender and captain, spent more than ten years at the club and won 77 caps. Darwin Machís came through the academy and made his debut in 2011.

Money and results caught up in 2023, and Mineros dropped out of the first division after four decades in it. The following year they played no professional football at all. In February 2025 the former baseball player Bob Abreu bought the club outright and entered it in Liga FUTVE 2.

The ground they return to, the Centro Total de Entretenimiento Cachamay, holds 41,600.
