Segunda División (Venezuela) 2026/27

The Liga FUTVE 2 serves as the second tier of Venezuelan football, sitting immediately below the top-flight Primera División. The competition operates as a direct feeder to the first division, with the primary objective of securing promotion for its victors. Unlike the top flight, it does not offer qualification for continental competitions such as the Copa Sudamericana; its function remains strictly domestic.

Structured around two short tournaments, the Apertura and Clausura, the season demands consistency across halves. Teams play a home-and-away round-robin within their respective geographical groups before the top four from each advance to the knockout stage. The winners of the two tournaments then face each other in the Final Absoluta, a two-legged tie that crowns the national champion. If a single club wins both tournaments, they are automatically elevated to the Primera División.

The league was founded in 1979 and rebranded as Liga FUTVE 2 in July 2021 following a commercial agreement. While the current squad lists smaller regional entities, the historical hierarchy is defined by clubs like Llaneros de Guanare, which holds four titles. Other frequent winners include Deportivo Galicia and Atlético El Vigía, each securing three championships. The current champions are Trujillanos, who won the 2025 title.

Relegation from the Liga FUTVE 2 flows into the third-tier Tercera División, though specific mechanics for the 2026 season regarding the number of relegated teams remain unclear in some sources. Administrative licensing plays a significant role in participation, as demonstrated in 2021 when Titanes FC won the title but were denied promotion due to a failure to obtain the necessary club licensing from the Federación Venezolana de Fútbol (FVF).

The competition is distinct from the Copa Venezuela and the Supercopa de Venezuela. Its structure ensures that the ultimate prize is not merely silverware, but the opportunity to compete in the top tier of Venezuelan football.
