Mitrovica

The name on the shirt for most of its life pointed away from Kosovo entirely. A club founded on 20 June 2011 in Mitrovica took the name KF Australia, and the tie to the country on the other side of the world stuck hard enough that the nickname, Australianët, survived long after the name itself was dropped. Local sides in Kosovo have a habit of naming themselves after the diaspora that funds or founds them, and that history is still audible every time someone shouts for the Australians rather than for Mitrovica.

The switch to FC Mitrovica came on 23 May 2023, a rebrand that tied the club more plainly to its city without erasing the old identity — the nickname stayed put. Home games are played at the Xhevat Jusufi Stadium, a ground that holds 1,000 people, which says something about the scale the club has operated at for most of its existence.

That scale has been climbing. The 2021/22 season brought the Liga e Tretë title, the win that pushed the team up from Kosovo's third tier into the second. Two seasons later, in 2023/24, Mitrovica finished second in the Liga e Dytë, a result strong enough to earn promotion again, this time into the Liga e Parë, the country's first division. Two promotions in three seasons is not a common trajectory for a club still built around a stadium the size of a large village hall, and it leaves Mitrovica now facing life a level higher than it has ever played.
