About

The Raiffeisen First League of Kosovo operates as the second tier of the national football pyramid, positioned directly below the Superleague and above the Second Football League. Governed by the Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK), the competition was established as a distinct entity in 1999 following the post-war reorganization of the Kosovar structure. While the top division has historical roots dating back to 1945, this league represents a modern iteration designed to feed the highest level of domestic play. Unlike the Superleague, it does not offer direct qualification for UEFA competitions; only the Superleague champion and the Kosovar Cup winner secure European spots. The Kosovar Cup remains a separate knockout tournament open to all tiers.

For the 2025–26 season, the league has merged from a previous two-group format into a single nationwide division comprising 18 teams. This structural change follows reforms implemented in 2019–20 that formalized the current tier system. The season runs on a double round-robin basis, with each team playing 34 matches. Promotion to the Superleague is awarded to the top two teams, while the third and fourth-placed teams enter playoffs against the eighth-placed Superleague team. Relegation sees the bottom teams sent down to the Second League. Ferizaj holds the record for the most titles with three wins. The most recent champions under the previous two-group format were Drenica and Prishtina e Re.

Sponsorship names have included Viva Fresh and Raiffeisen, with the latter holding the current rights. The league is distinct from the Second Football League, which sits at the third tier. The competition serves as a crucial bridge for clubs aiming to reach the top flight, providing a clear pathway through promotion playoffs and direct advancement. Its structure ensures a competitive environment for the participating sides, including clubs such as Korriku, Dinamo Ferizaj, FC Besa Peja, Istogu, and Kf Lepenci, who compete for status within the national hierarchy.
