Novosibirsk

The old Sibir , running since 1936, gave the city its one real taste of the top flight before it was disbanded, and in 2019 a successor was built on its foundations under the name Novosibirsk . In June 2024 the club reclaimed the old name, Sibir , restoring the link the city had lost.

The predecessor club is what gives Novosibirsk's football history its weight. That old Sibir reached the Russian Cup final in 2009/10, losing 0-1 to Zenit, and went on to play Europa League qualifiers off the back of it. Murtaz Начкебия captained the side through 440 matches, while Dmitry Akimov remains the club's leading scorer with 131 goals.

The current side plays home matches at the Spartak stadium, which the club's own site lists at up to 15,000 seats. It competes in the Second League, Russian football's third tier, and has been pushing at the edge of promotion rather than winning it outright: third in the Gold group in 2023/24, eliminated by Rotor in the play-offs, then second in the same group a year later. Matches against Tom (Tomsk) and Irtysh (Omsk) are known locally as the Siberian derby.
