The 2014–15 title cost Karşıyaka five games against Anadolu Efes, settled 85–71, and it came almost three decades after the first one, in 1986–87, when they beat Beşiktaş for the Turkish Basketball League. In Europe the closest they came was twice falling one game short: beaten by Krasnye Krylia Samara in the 2013 FIBA EuroChallenge final, then by Hereda San Pablo Burgos in the 2021 FIBA Champions League final.

The basketball section traces back to 1921, nine years after Karşıyaka Spor Kulübü was founded as İzmir's first sports club. Locally the team is known as Kaf-Kaf, and it plays in green and red, unlike the football side's blue and white. From 1998 the club carried the name of its sponsor, Pınar Süt, a Yaşar Holding brand, though the deal ran out in August 2024.

The 2014–15 squad is remembered chiefly for Bobby Dixon, named MVP of that championship run under coach Ufuk Sarıca.
