About

The Türkiye Basketbol 2. Ligi forms the third tier of the Turkish basketball pyramid. Situated directly below the second tier Türkiye Basketbol Ligi and the top-flight Basketbol Süper Ligi, it operates as a semi-professional developmental stage. The league is administered by the Turkish Basketball Federation.

Its modern incarnation began in the 2012–13 season under the name Türkiye Basketbol 3. Ligi before being renamed TB2L in 2015–16 following a structural reorganisation. The competition typically splits into two groups, Group A and Group B. A complex playoff system determines the ultimate winner and promotion spots. In recent iterations, the format has shifted toward a final group stage involving six teams, where the top two finishers secure promotion to the second tier. The club finishing first in that final group claims the championship title.

Relegation is straightforward, with the last-placed teams from each group dropping to the fourth tier, the EBBL. This tier serves as a critical feeder for the higher levels, distinguishing itself from the more professionalised upper divisions through its regional focus and developmental role. Recent champions include Göztepe, Ayos Spor, and Çayırova Belediyesi. However, the identity of the most successful club in the competition's history remains unclear due to fragmented records from its early years.

The current season features clubs such as Akhisar Belediye, Beylikdüzü, Çiftlikkoy Belediyesi, Çorlu, Ege Üniversitesi, and Egospor. The structure ensures that competitive balance is maintained across different regions of Turkey while providing a clear pathway for amateur and semi-professional sides to aim for national prominence. The league’s evolution reflects a broader strategy to integrate local talent into the national system, bridging the gap between grassroots basketball and the professional elite.
