The Kingdom's team lifted the ACC Men's Challenger Cup in the 50-over format in 2023, beating Bahrain by ten wickets in the final, then defended the trophy in the T20I version a year later, seeing off Cambodia by five wickets.

The team traces further back than that run suggests. It first appeared at the ACC Trophy in 2004 — the T20I debut came only in 2019. The Saudi Arabian Cricket Federation took over in January 2020 from the Saudi Cricket Centre, which had run the game in the country since 2001 and secured ICC affiliate status in 2003.

Home matches move between Riyadh, Dammam and Jeddah rather than settling at one ground. Hisham Shaikh captains the side now as an all-rounder; before him Shoaib Ali led the team sixteen times between 2010 and 2017. Ishtiaq Ahmad has taken 69 wickets in T20 internationals.

The sharpest contests come against the other Gulf Cooperation Council sides — the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar — fought out in the Gulf Cricket T20I Championship and the Desert Cup.
