Kami Arena sits in Izumo as one half of a two-city arrangement, the club splitting its home fixtures with Matsue's own gymnasium rather than settling in a single building. Seating runs to around 3,536, modest by top-flight standards, but the ground carries weight as the first stage a professional basketball team ever occupied in the San'in region.

Shimane Susanoo Magic took its name from a public vote in November 2009, before a ball had been bounced in earnest, and entered the bj League for the 2010–11 season as San'in's answer to a sport that had bypassed the area entirely. The choice of Blue, Black and Silver was not decorative: Blue nods to Lake Shinji and the Sea of Japan, Black to the region's pine forests, Silver to the old workings of the Iwami Ginzan mine. When the bj League and the National Basketball League merged into the unified B.League in 2016, Shimane was there as a founding member. A drop back down followed in 2018, but the club returned to the top flight the following year, around the same time Bandai Namco Entertainment bought a controlling 56.5 percent stake in the operating company.

No league or cup silverware has followed. What has taken root instead is the Torine Derby against Tottori Vortex, a fixture drawn less from history than from geography — Matsue and Yonago sit close enough that the rivalry needed no manufacturing.

Between the two arenas and the two cities, Shimane remains the region's only claim to professional basketball, playing in front of crowds who had no team to follow before 2009.
