No fixture on the calendar carries a name the way football derbies do, but when Singapore play Malaysia in a regional qualifier, the match carries significant weight. The rivalry runs through the Southeast Asian Games and the ACC circuit.

Before there was a national side there was the Straits Settlements team, which took the field against touring sides from 1890 to 1940, and the Singapore Cricket Club, founded in 1852, whose ground at the Padang remains the sport's historic home on the island. The national team's own record is usually dated from 1957, when it drew with Ceylon.

Full membership of the ICC has never followed; Singapore have played as Associates since joining in 1974, and their honours reflect that tier — the Tuanku Ja'afar Cup in 1994, the ICC World Cricket League Division Six in 2009, won undefeated, and the ACC Trophy Challenge in 2012, beaten out by 24 runs against Bahrain in the final. Gold in the 20-over event at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games sits alongside those.

What put the team on a wider map was a single evening in 2019, when Singapore beat Zimbabwe, a Test-playing nation, by four runs in a rain-shortened T20I.

Home matches of note have been staged at Kallang Cricket Ground, which held nine One-Day Internationals either side of the millennium.
