Steve Tikolo took over as Uganda's head coach in 2026, replacing Abhay Sharma in charge of a side known as the Cricket Cranes. The team's history predates its own governing body: internationals go back to 1951/52, played first as part of a combined East Africa side until 1989, then East and Central Africa until 1998, when the Uganda Cricket Association split away and joined the International Cricket Council as an independent associate member.

Yellow and black, the national colours, are worn at home fixtures around Kampala, chiefly at Lugogo Stadium, which holds 5,000 for cricket; Kyambogo, Entebbe and Jinja also stage matches. Kenya is the fixture that carries weight beyond the scorecard — the Derby Trophy between the two grew out of the decades the sides shared a team before either had one of its own.

Titles have come at regional and qualifying level: the ICC World Cricket League Division Three in 2007, Division Four in 2018, and the Africa T20 Cup in both 2022 and 2023. Uganda played its first T20 International only in 2019, then reached the ICC Men's T20 World Cup by 2024 and added a bronze medal at that year's African Games. The fifty-over World Cup is still out of reach.
