Toluca

José Saturnino Cardozo scored 258 goals in Toluca's colours, more than anyone else who has worn the shirt, and the number still frames how people around the club talk about it: built to attack. Hernán Cristante guarded the other end of the pitch across those same years, a goalkeeper whose name still comes up whenever a young keeper is measured against what the club expects.

Toluca was founded on 12 February 1917, and the scarlet of the shirt was taken from a colour already tied to the city itself, which is why the nickname stuck: Los Diablos Rojos, the Red Devils. Home games are played at Estadio Nemesio Díez, known locally as La Bombonera, in front of 30,000 people.

12 league titles sit in the trophy room. The oldest dates back to 1966-67; the newest pair came within a single year, 2025, when Toluca won both the Clausura and the Apertura. 5 Campeón de Campeones titles follow a similar rhythm, the latest also arriving in 2025.

Toluca's own academy has produced players who went on to define a rival: Alexis Vega and Isaac Brizuela both came through the club's ranks before moving on to Chivas, the team Toluca's supporters have long treated as their fiercest opponent. Cruz Azul and Pumas UNAM come up too, but Chivas is the name that carries the weight.

Toluca's first CONCACAF Champions Cup arrived in 1968. Its third came in 2026 — 58 years later.
