Toronto Awaba Stags

In 1922, the Awaba Cricket Club put a football side on the field.

Promotion to the State First Division came in 1957, and the following year the Stags beat Wallsend 4–2 to take the NSW State Cup. Northern New South Wales premierships followed through the end of the decade and into the next. They lasted two seasons, finished tenth in 2025 and went down again.

Home is Lyall Peacock Field, on the corner of Cook and Thorn Streets, which holds 3,000. The club runs no website of its own; what it has to say goes out through Facebook and Instagram. Royal blue, gold and white.

The fixture that matters is West Wallsend. The formal Wallsend derby belongs to two other clubs, but in Northern League One the West Wallsend games are the ones the table goes out of the window for.

Mark Jones came through here before he took charge of the Newcastle Jets, and Darren Stewart went on to play for the Socceroos. Around Toronto, though, the names that come up first are Doug Field and Geoff Finch, both of whom won the Northern New South Wales best-and-fairest award.
