The first competitive fixture the club played, in 1917, was against a side of miners from Lambton. New Lambton is a suburb of Newcastle.

The club spent four decades apart from the New Lambton Eagles before the two came back together in 2016 and took the name New Lambton Eagles Football Club. A year later the women's side entered the Women's Premier League.

Alder Park on Bridges Road holds a thousand. The senior men moved out to Novocastrian Park in 2007 and came back; the juniors stayed, so the two grounds now split the club between them.

Among those who passed through in the earliest years was James Jackson, who played here in the late 1880s and went on to Newcastle United, Woolwich Arsenal, Rangers and West Ham United. Ray Baartz and Col Curran came through New Lambton South as juniors and were part of Australia's 1974 World Cup campaign — the same year the club won the State Cup.

The recent run is the three Northern NSW League 1 First Grade premierships taken in a row, 2020 through 2022. In between, the club has been useful to the Newcastle Jets: Tara Andrews, a former Matilda, has played for the New Lambton women's side, as have Lauren Allan and Cassidy Davis.

The club now runs in the Northern NSW NPL and NNSW League 1. Lambton Jaffas remain the fixture that fills Alder Park — the history between them adds an edge — with Broadmeadow Magic not far behind.
