Virtus Verona

The first came in 2013, through the Serie D play-offs, with Casertana beaten in the final — a route that carries promotion but not a title. The second was cleaner: first place in Group C of Serie D in 2017-18, then a return to the third tier the following season after going down.

The name on the shirt has shifted more than the club has. It began in 1921 as Unione Sportiva Virtus Borgo Venezia. In 2003 a sponsor's brand went into the official title and the club became Virtus Vecomp Verona, later simply Virtus Verona. No mergers, no refoundings — the line from Borgo Venezia runs unbroken, which is why the old neighbourhood names still stick: the Borgo-Veneziani, the Ribelli Veronesi, and, most often, the Virtussini.

The blue and red have produced a second nickname, Rossoblù.

Before any of the professional football, there was a regional double in 2005-06: the Eccellenza Veneto Group A title, which sent the club up to Serie D, and the Coppa Italia Dilettanti Veneto, which opened the door to the national amateur cup and a run as far as the semi-finals.

Home is the Stadio Gavagnin Nocini — properly the Centro Sportivo Mario Gavagnin-Sinibaldo Nocini, and the longer name tells you what it is.
