Ask what sets this ground apart from any other in Helsinki's Töölö district, and the answer is underfoot. Natural grass was laid when the stadium opened, but in 2003 it gave way to an artificial pitch, and that switch turned the venue into a small footnote in FIFA history: it became the first stadium anywhere to stage the final of a FIFA tournament, the Under-17 World Championship, on artificial turf. The surface has been replaced more than once since — brought up to FIFA's two-star standard in 2006, swapped briefly for real grass when Finland hosted the Women's Euro in 2009, then relaid again in April 2025.

The build itself was a rush job. Skanska put the stadium up for the city of Helsinki in ten months, from September 1999 to the following summer, to a design by Atelier23 and a budget of 18.5 million euros.

Its name has changed with whoever was paying for the rights: Finnair, then Sonera, then Telia's 5G branding, and since January 2020 the ride-hailing firm Bolt. HJK Helsinki plays its home matches here, with IF Gnistan occasionally sharing the pitch. The capacity of 10,770 still stands as the ground's attendance record, set after the 2006 renovation.
