IFK Helsingfors U20

Twenty-nine years passed between the two junior championships won by IFK Helsingfors' age-group side, known within the club as Kolli. The first came in 1982-83, the second not until 2011-12, a gap long enough that an entire hockey generation grew up in Helsinki without seeing the junior team lift the national title.

Kolli sits beneath a hockey department that only joined the wider IFK Helsingfors multi-sport club, itself founded in 1897, three decades later, in 1928. The junior side trains in the same red, white and dark blue as the senior team, nicknamed Röda, and shares its home at the Helsinki Ice Hall, an arena built for 8,200. Its purpose has always been to feed that senior roster, and over the years it has sent through players who went on to build senior careers of their own - Miro Heiskanen and Anton Lundell among the more recent, Olli Jokinen, Kimmo Timonen and Leo Komarov before them.

The rivalry the seniors carry against TPS and Tappara runs down through the age groups too, so a Kolli fixture against either club is rarely just another junior match.

Since that 2011-12 title, though, the junior championship has not returned to Helsinki, and Kolli has spent the years since chasing it.
