KooKoo U20

The under-20 side draws its players from the same academy that has sent Vili Sopanen to the New Jersey Devils and Jesse Nurmi to the New York Islanders, and it exists because KooKoo itself does: the Kouvola club formed on 3 November 1965, when Kouvolan Pallonlyöjät and Sudet merged into what was first called Kouvolan Kiekko-65. The junior team took the name once it settled, and has run in the top-tier junior league under its various titles — now the U20 SM-sarja — for decades since.

Its record there has been uneven. Relegated in the 2009–10 season, the side won promotion back in 2011–12, dropped again to the second-tier U20 Mestis for three seasons from 2012–13, and returned to the top flight for 2015–16. It stayed there long enough to reach the podium in 2023–24, taking bronze.

Home games are played at Lumon Arena, and the club carries the same black, orange and white colours through every age group.

A bronze medal remains the high point. The U20 SM-sarja championship has not gone to Kouvola.
