Pelicans Lahti U20

Away days to Kouvola carry the most weight in Lahti: KooKoo is the closest rival within reach, and matches between the two are billed locally as the Lahti derby, a fixture the U20 side inherits along with everything else the senior club's colours mean in this part of Finland.

The lineage behind the name runs back to Viipurin Reipas, a club formed in 1891 in Vyborg and carried west after the war years, through Lahden Reipas, Kiekkoreipas and Hockey Reipas, before the Pelicans name was settled on in 1996. The U20 side, Pelicans A-nuoret, was set up that same year as part of the rebrand, rather than growing up separately alongside the seniors.

Its one significant title came a decade later: the 2006–07 U20 SM-sarja, won with a final victory over Blues. Since then the age group has worked more as a pipeline than a trophy case, feeding the senior roster and, further down the line, the NHL draft — Luka Arkko among the more recent names to go that way in 2026.

Turquoise and orange in the same kit is not a common combination on Finnish ice, and it has stayed attached to the club through every name change since Vyborg.
